revolution *is* possible

Ok, short and sweet, im sitting with my eyes slightly moist, and all for watching a flash movie. Creative Commons Licensing is taking off in a big way. The reason for the wet eyes?? Before i grew up and got old etc (as if....) i was quite radical in my beliefs, i believed that society needed a big paradigm shift, and that property was theft, governments were lies etc etc. TBH, i dont anymore, governments are a necessary evil, property is nice(but unaffordable mostly), and yes, society does still need the changes. But as i grew, and moved from being a full time musician to being a part time student, and now, part self employed, and part student, my vision has narrowed somewhat. Apples co-opting of Open Source development arguably saved its ass, Open Source development has made a lot of peoples lives a lot easier (for example THE INTERNET !) and, above all, information is available to those who want it. When i was young the net was still very much the provence of geeks and sysadmins, but now people who are too thick to read can get access to all of humanitys knowledge (and all those paris hilton videos..), but most dont bother, too complacent to care, too brainwshed to know that theres anything else. Then i stumbled across teh shockwave movie on CC, and i felt like crying, people are still making radical changes in the way we can share information, and, as in teh case of the net being born, guttenbergs bibles, or even hitting rocks on the cave wall, the information is OUT, and WILL disseminate, finding its way into every unlikely place, teenagers will grow up and have kids, and those kids will have more access to more thn ever before, growing daily. And will we be lost? will the truth be submerged? No, new, creative ways of expressing opinion will be found, McDonalds cant spin doctor blogs, flash movies and p2p with a salad and pretend that it makes up for making america fat, and esso cant throw money at the internet and pretend that it makes it ok that they stifled research into greener alternatives (that can outperform the petrol engine in most ways..).. WE can win, WE can change things, start small, and work up from there, it is possible that we can remix culture, we can remix the lies, and that we can have a peaceful, happy, world. All we need to do is take the power from the elites, not through violence or through revolution, but simply by ignoring them, and forming our own structures and societies.

I agree, some revolutions are not dramatic and take time. In fact, we may not even notice them until we see them in their historical perspective. It is, however, also very easy to become disillusioned (particularly in todays fast paced world) when things do take time. One important aspect in all this is not to be defeatist. Sometimes a task may look impossible and many times you may feel you are getting nowhere but, even if it is only for your own integrity, you should persist.

I liked the article (but would like to see more paragraphs....it would make it easier to read.)
